THE VIDEO: RUNAWAY CHIEF GABRIEL'S COP TRAINING TAPE ON HOW TO HIGH
      TAIL IT OUT OF KANEHSATAKE

MNN Mohawk Nation News. Kahnawake Mohawk Territory. May 6, 2004. It
was the west side of the territory and the militia were getting bored on
their watch and needed some action. Now that James Gabriel has moved
out to the Sheraton in Laval, there are no more criminals in Kanehsatake
So it's pretty quiet. As an elder once said, "How can grown men sit in
a car all day long waiting for someone to do something wrong? What kind
of job is that?" It's almost like being a journalist!

It was around 11:00 o'clock in the morning of May 3, 2004. The militia
and the Quebec Police were just lazing around Oka staring up at the
Kanehsatake men who were all camoed and masked up staring back at them.
The militia and their cohorts were filming through the back window of
their pickup truck, You could hear them laughing and making jokes about
the guys. The two sides had all kinds of vehicles, marked, unmarked,
some sporting warrior flags, etc. All dressed up with nothing to do.

The next thing we see is a cop with a stun gun in his hand quickly
climbing and jumping into the back of the pickup truck. Before he could
take aim at the Kanehsatake guardians, he was pounded by a hail of rocks
and the men raced forward to disarm him. One rock crashed through the
back window of the truck and the truck took off. After that the filming
was done through this broken back window.

That's when there was a blank in the tape. One witness said there was
some cop behaviour that they did not want anyone to see.

Then the chase began. An undercover car scooted out of the way.
Traffic in the opposite direction had to maneuver their way through the
      cavalcade of vehicles.

As the chase progressed you could hear one of the militia screaming,
"The SQ better fucking do something now" to help us. What were they
scared of? The trucks behind them were moving at a regular speed. How
many times have you looked at your rearview mirror at the cars following
you? Have you ever suddenly put your foot on the brakes and got slammed
from behind? Well, that's just what happened. But the big dump truck
didn't stop just because the cop wanted to stop in the middle of the
road. It was dangerous! There were vehicles behind him. So far no
one's being charged because they don't know who was driving.

Throughout you could hear radio messages and yelling, "The big 5 ton
truck is coming after us". Wow! What could they do? They kept on
going until they hit the next town, St. Placide.

In Montreal's Le Devoir, there is a funny cartoon about this. It shows
the Gabriel militia car all smashed and his men taking off, being chased
out of Kanehsatake Territory by the Mohawk warriorss. Then you see
Minister of Public Security Jacques Chagnon standing on the side wearing
a Quebec Police uniform, saying, "We can't make any wrong moves because
we might get those Mohawks mad".
