      MEDIA MONITOR
      Monday - June 30, 2003 - 17:30

      CBC Iqaluit Regional News Summary

The Makivik Corporation is association with the University of Ottawa is
looking for someone from Nunavik to climb to the base camp of Mount Everest.
The person will participate in a research expedition about 18,000 feet, or
about 5,000 metres, above sea level. Mount Everest is the highest mountain
in the world. It's located in Nepal on the border of Tibet. Sammie Kadlaq
(sp) of Makivik says anybody interested must submit their names to him by
Dec. 1. He says the Ottawa-based research team wants to involve an Inuk on
the project. He says candidates must be in excellent health and will require
a letter from their doctor. Kadlaq says the successful candidate will depart
from Ottawa in March of 2005 for Mount Everest. He says the candidate will
also have the opportunity to climb 29,000 feet or about 8,800 metres, all
the way up to the top of Mount Everest.
