CBC Iqaluit Regional News Summary
Residents in Rankin Inlet will soon have a choice between CBC and the
hamlet's new radio station, 95.1. The hamlet is expected to be live and on
the air by the beginning of February. Ron Roach (sp) is the community senior
administrative officer. He says the hamlet had hoped to be on the air by
January, but he says getting the proper equipment led to the delay.
"Well the biggest thing is right now everybody is getting prepared for
Christmas, they're travelling and that and it was just unfortunate that it
took a little longer to get our decision from Industry Canada and the
material took a little longer to obtain than we anticipated."
Roach says the setup of the station will cost the hamlet about $36,000.
Thirty thousand of that is funded by the Department of Sustainable
Development. The hamlet says it hasn't decided how often it will be on the
air. It says that decision will be made once the station is up and running
and will demand on the demand from the community.
