      Press Release

Seton Lake Band expresses dissatisfaction with late payment by BC Hydro

      Tsalalh, St'at'imc Territory

On June 15th, 2011 BC Hydro issued a press release to the effect that an agreement had been signed between BC Hydro and the St'at'imc and expressed how happy they are to secure operational certainty for their existing facilities.

Seton Lake Indian Band is deeply disappointed with how its Certificate of Possession (CP) landholders are being treated by BC Hydro. As of today it is has been several months since an agreement was signed by BC Hydro and the St'at'imc Nation. Part of the agreement set aside monies for CP landholders who had a legal interest in the lands that were impacted by BC Hydro facilities and or development.

"It is very sad that BC Hydro with all of its capacity is not able to be more diligent with this part of the agreement. Consequently the CP landholders have now had to wait and listen to excuses from BC Hydro staff about why there are untimely delays for payment to be issued." Chief Garry John stated from his office in Tsalalh.

John said "If our people are late with any monies owed to BC Hydro we are issued threats of disconnection and requests for security deposits. After 18 years of negotiations there should not be one delay in making sure that people are paid what they are owed for the impacts and inconvenience they have endured"
