Late in the afternoon of January 30th, 2010, Fort Nelson RCMP officers were called to assist BC Ambulance with a woman in distress. Police attended and located a woman inside a residence at the Fort Nelson First Nation and began to provide medical assistance. Fire and BC Ambulance personnel also attended and confirmed that the woman, 22 year old Janeil BERREAULT, was deceased at the scene.
Evidence, examined at the scene, led investigators to the determination that the death was suspicious. A male subject, also inside the residence was taken into custody. At the present time the death is being investigated by the Fort Nelson RCMP, the North District RCMP Major Crime Unit and the BC Coroner's Service.
The investigator have not released the relationship of the male in custody to the deceased. At the time of this release, no charges have been laid.
Police are requesting that anyone, who may have witnessed an assault on Ms. BERREAULT, or anyone that might have seen or heard anything of a suspicious nature on January 30th, 2010, in relation to Ms. BERREAULT, to contact the Fort Nelson RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
