- Oct 1, 2001Innu demand logging reforms
Happy Valley-Goose Bay - The Innu Nation wants major changes in the way trees are cut and sold in Labrador.
Innu environmental monitors say logging companies are bending provincial forestry rules with practices that could damage the regeneration of the forest.
Ken Colbert, the regional director for the Forestry Department, says strict enforcement of the rules could drive logging companies out of business.
The Innu and the loggers will have to find some balance over the next six months because the two sides hope to sign a co-management agreement at that time.
