I heard a story about a certain seaman,
who contacted a very unpleasant venereal
infection. for years he tried to find a remedy,
but all the medical experts were unanimous:
they all declared that amputation of the diseased
organ is the only effective cure. after many years,
and spending most of his fortune on the futile
quest, he heard about a wise chinese doctor
who was considered the greatest living medical
authority. after many efforts and travails our
gentleman succeeded to find him and reached
the old man's presence. the doctor examined the
patient, looked at him with his compassionate and
patience filled eyes, smiled, and to our friends
enormous relief pronounced the words which the man
so longed to hear: "no need to amputate! and no
      medicaments are needed either."

relieved, and thanking the old man profusely,
he turned to leave. "oh, and do not worry" added
the sage, "it will dry and fall off on it's own."

Do not believe in something because it is reported. Do not believe in something because it has been practiced by generations or becomes a tradition or part of a culture. Do not believe in something because scripture says it is so. Do not believe in something believing a god has inspired it. Do not believe in something a teacher tells you to. Do not believe in something because the authorities say it is so. Do not believe in hearsay, rumor, speculative opinion, public opinion, or mere acceptance to logic and inference alone. Help yourself, accept as completely true only that which you test for yourself and know to be good for yourself and others.
