The Dec. 2003 MR has a mini-article-review by Tony Koester on use of those
wonderful Central Valley HO curveable turnout kits. For those who didn't
read it, Tony described using a mixture of Barge Cement (ACE hardware) and
either MEK or lacquer thinner to attached rails to the plastic CV tie-
strips. He applies a coat to the underside of the rails and the top of the
ties, lets it dry for 15 minutes, then places the rail in position with
weighted track gauges. A thin application of either MEK or lacquer thinner
by brush along the rail/tie interface re-activates the adhesive. Similar to
the old application of Pliobond on the rail activated with heat from a
soldering iron, but without any heating required.
Has anybody tried this in Sn3, expecially with code 55 rail? It sounds like
it would work great with the Sn3 "Sweeps". I personally like the solvent
idea much better than trying to melt Pliobond.
