Here is the morning after:
I am still off the fence. It does not show the variation in the ties, and it dusts up the rail, so I will re-need to think my process (i.e. color the rail last). I do like the fact that it has adhesive in the mix, and I think cutting it with sand helped some. The color is right.
I consulted some of my older C&TS photos, and the ties do settle down into the earth. This method also blends well with the sand and latex paint treatment of the adjacent scenery. Incidentally, this is my D&RGW staging track adjacent to the Arkansas Valley Smelter.
