Group Description

This group's aim is to contact amateur astronomers of any age in Northwest Georgia and surrounding areas to grow an informal but organized amateur astronomy group.

This group serves Cartersville, Rome, Adairsville, Rockmart, Cedartown, Calhoun, Dalton, Summerville and surrounding areas but members are welcome from anywhere. We have nice dark skies right here so driving hours to get to one of the other observing groups just seems a little unnecessary.

We are an informal group where there are no dues and anyone with an interest in any aspect of astronomy is welcome and 'belongs'. You don't have to live in this area to join and you certainly don't have to own a telescope either. We have a nice dark sky viewing site near Calhoun and Rome and are open to trying new ones in our area. Group viewing sessions are scheduled every month on the new moon Saturday. Meetings are informal and occur before sunset on the day of the group viewing sessions. We can do presentations for local schools, scout groups, etc as member availability allows.

The group has grown nicely but there is always more we can do so please post your ideas, wishes and questions and let's see where we can go from here.
