Subject: [NVnarrowgauge] Carson and Colorado 2011 Convention

This years C&C convention sponsered by the SPNG Historical Society Inc. will be
      based out of Hawthorne Nevada.

We will set up our convention base at the EL CAPITAN HOTEL and CASINO in

Dates: Thursday April 28 through Saturday April 30. For those that wish to stay
on Sunday May 1 there are plans to visit several other ROW sites between
Candelaria and Laws. There may be some moderate hiking involved on this day.

This years Convention Committee members are Gurden Miller, Ron Garu, and Darrol

We will have our usual meet and greet session and late registration on Thursday
Cost of the convention for society members is $20.00.

Friday morning will begin with breakfast and a last minute registration and then
we will head out for our first field trip.
After our trip and Dinner we will meet in the Old Carson and Colorado Freight
Depot in Hawthorne for the evenings programs.

Saturday morning we will head out in another direction for our second field
trip, return for dinner, and hold our evening programs at the El Capitans Hotel
meeting room. There will also me a Society business meeting on this evening, as
      well as election updates.

Some of the locations on the agenda to vist are Mina, Tonapah Junction, turning
wye at Soda Springs, Schurz, Candelaria, including the site of the trestle,
Belleville, Row on east side of Walker Lake,Thorne, Luning,at least one wreck
      site, ect.
Ron Garu and Brian Nordan both of whom are very familiar with this area of the
line are currently laying out the field trip routes.

We currently have 3 evening programs set up that I think you will enjoy. We
could schedule at least one more if anyone has any ideas or wishes to volunteer
      for one.

Darrol Stanley is working on a program to visit the Military Base Railroad
Facilities in Hawthorne, and knowing Darrols persistance I am sure he is trying
to set up a train ride as well. We will see.

They have set up a special deal of $55.70 per night. Each room will have 2 beds,
so if you have a bunky that makes for a cheap hotel cost.

The Hotel has a full restaruant, cafe, and bar.
To make a reservation you can phone the hotel at 775-945-3321. Advise them that
you are with the Southern Pacific Railroad group convention. If you have any
problem registering, which always happens at least once, you can ask for Jody
      Baxter during the weekdays.
I will post other accomodations in town shortly, including RV facilities if

Registration forms will be available soon on the SPNG Yahoo sites, in the next
Journal, or by contacting the Societys Office at 707-262-1824 or

      Updates will be posted.
