The New Jersey Mycological Association is non-profit organization whose aims are to provide a means for sharing ideas, experiences, knowledge and common interests regarding NJ fungi, and to furnish mycological information and educational materials to those who wish to increase their knowledge about mushrooms.
IMPORTANT: If you are posting photos and are not 100% sure of the ID, place a ? in the photo title!
This group is open to anyone who is interested in mushrooms, whether or not you're a member of the NJMA. This Yahoo Group is NOT a substitute for the NJMA website, www.njmyco.org, and club information and events, newsletters, membership applications, and mushroom recipes can be found there, not here.
DISCLAIMER: Be aware that no one should rely on information or photos posted to this group for identification of any mushroom, for any purpose, by anyone. Mushroom identification is a tricky science, and positive identification by a seasoned expert (preferably with specimen in hand) is the only reliable way to verify a mushroom's identitiy. NJMA is not responsible for any identifications (or attempts at identification) which may show up on this board.
Never post personal information (phone numbers, addresses, etc.)
Remember the mushroomer's creed: When in doubt, throw it out! (OK, one qualification...NJMA wants to know what it is before you throw it out...just don't EAT it!)
Membership in this group is open to all who wish to discuss New Jersey mushrooms, however we STRONGLY encourage you to join the NJMA to get a real mushroom learning experience. Membership dues are based on how members opt to receive the club newsletter (online or hardcopy): Online newsletter: $10 indiv, $15 family; Hardcopy $35 indiv, $40 family. Click here for details.
