I had a great time last weekend at the 2010 Deadly Ink Mystery Conference at the Sheraton in Pasippany. I was on two panels--"Crossing Genres" (with some other paranormal writers) and "Writing as the Opposite Sex" (me and five guys!). Hallie Ephron gave a workshop on "Writing Suspense," author and retired forensic psychologist Rick Helms talked about criminal profiling, and other panels dealt with creating effective heroes and villains and setting a mystery in the past. The "mystery" definition at this con covers a wide sweep and definitely takes in thrillers, too.
I highly recommend it to anyone who writes or READS in this genre. Plans already are underway for next year's con--check out www.deadlyink.com!
