Group Description

Welcome home to the NHL New York Islander fan forum where sports enthusiasts will find the ultimate hockey resource while keeping the ultimate Islander fan in mind. The team was widely expected to take the Eastern Hockey League Long Island Ducks name as the move to the more geographically sound "New York Islanders" came largely as a surprise. Soon to be nicknamed the "Isles" by the local newspapers as the team was first introduced to the Long Island community (1971) to begin playing in the 1972-1973 season. Bill Torrey (1972) became the teams first General Manager who selected 21 expansion draft players including Eddie Westfall, Gerry Hart and Billy Smith. The team lost it's first game and home opener in franchise history to the expansion Flames. Al Arbour began as head coach (1973) to manage such greats as Denis Potvin, Clark Gillies, Bryan Trottier, Bob Bourne, J.P. Parise, Duane Sutter, Mike Bossy, Gord Lane, Butch Goring, Pat Flatley, and more. The Islanders rapidly developed a dominant team that won four consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the early 1980's. Post new web sites by main page URL before management hand indexes them into appropriate topic order after checking for accuracy within a maximum seven days to verify they are current and active. Acceptable mail options for this participating group are "Individual E-mail" or "Daily Digest" as a Islander fan needs to emerge for a change in posting status. Violatation of the “Terms of Service” (TOS) Agreement is prohibited as is to spam, flame, or show other rude behavior. "We are all Islanders" as anyone can claim to be a fan but it takes a certain level of passion to truly be one!
