      The Women's Rights Club at AUB invites you to attend a lecture given by
      Teshreen
      University's Professor Iman AlGhafari on the representation of the
      lesbian
      identity in Arab Culture.

      The lecture will focus on the representation of lesbian identities in
      two novels
      written by Lebanese women writers,as well as the reasons which stand
      behind the
      absence of the politics of visibility in the media.

      Iman Al-Ghafari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English
      Language
      and Literature at Tishreen University in Syria. In 1999, she obtained
      her Ph.D.
      degree from Cairo University on twentieth-century poetry and gender
      criticism.
      She has publications on gender issues and translation studies, in
      addition to
      several translations of women's poetic and prose writings from English
      into
      Arabic. She attended conferences and seminars on comparative studies in
      Canada
      and Syria. She is also interested in film, media, cultural studies,
      visual
      arts, and women's studies with a particular emphasis on 'queer' theory,
      body
      politics and lesbian issues. Currently, she is a frequent contributor
      to the
      literary journals and magazines, issued by The Arab Writers' Union in
      Damascus.
