      Hello, Everyone.

THE ANDROID'S DREAM by John Scalzi will be discussed by the Month End Book Group at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2009. The event will be held at a table near the News Stand adjacent to Borders Books on the second floor food court of the Paramus Park Mall in Paramus, New Jersey.

The book is set on Earth in a near future in which the planet is a probationary member of an interstellar Commonwealth. A crisis is precipitated when a member of a xenophobic party kills an alien diplomat during trade negotiations. Soon mid level diplomat is on the run with the one creature who can forestall the approaching war: a very unique sheep.

Although this is not destined to become a classic, the book is a fun romp. It's the sort of thing Eric Frank Russell might have done, with a bit of seasoning by Ron Goulart. It has the sort of comedic tangeants one expects from the author--from Quaker Oats being the most important software firm in the world to a Church based on the works of a science fiction writer (no, not THAT science fiction writer.
