      ISRAEL'S UN AMBASSADOR
      CALLS JIMMY CARTER 'A BIGOT'

Dan Gillerman, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations

      By VERENA DOBNIK
      Associated Press

NEW YORK - Israel's ambassador to the United Nations on Thursday called former President Jimmy Carter "a bigot" for meeting with the leader of the militant Hamas movement in Syria.

Carter, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, "went to the region with soiled hands and came back with bloody hands after shaking the hand of Khaled Mashaal, the leader of Hamas," Ambassador Dan Gillerman told a luncheon briefing for reporters.

The diplomat was questioned about problems facing his country during a wide-ranging discussion with reporters lasting more than an hour. The briefing was sponsored by The Israel Project, a Washington- based, media-oriented advocacy group.

The ambassador's harsh words for Carter came days after the ex-president met with Mashaal for seven hours in Damascus to negotiate a cease-fire with Gaza's Hamas rulers. Carter then called Mashaal on Monday to try to get him to agree to a one-month truce without conditions, but the Hamas leader rejected the idea.

The ambassador called last weekend's encounter "a very sad episode in American history."

He said it was "a shame" to see Carter, who had done "good things" as a former president, "turn into what I believe to be a bigot."

Telephone calls by The Associated Press to two Atlanta numbers for Carter were not immediately returned Thursday.

Gillerman said Hamas is armed and trained by Iran, whose president once called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

"The real danger, the real problem is not the Israeli- Palestinian conflict; the real threat is Iran," he said.

Gillerman spoke with reporters from around the world at the Times Square offices of a New York law firm on the day Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was in Washington meeting with President Bush.

The ambassador said he was "quite optimistic" about the chances for an Israeli-Palestinian agreement because Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have met more times than any previous leaders of the two sides.

"I believe they've gone deeper and further than any other Israeli or Palestinian leader, and I believe that there is a very good chance (for a settlement)," he said.

Gillerman also was asked about another topic involving the U.S. government and Israel: the arrest last week in New Jersey of an 84-year-old man accused of passing U.S. weapons program secrets to an Israeli agent a quarter-century ago.

Retired U.S. military engineer Ben-ami Kadish faces charges linking him to the same now-defunct Israeli intelligence agency that used Jonathan Pollard, who is serving a life sentence for spying for Israel.

Gillerman called it "a very old matter."

"It pertains to something that may or may not have happened 25 years ago" and would be decided when Kadish goes to trial, he said.

In the wake of the Pollard case, the ambassador said Israel had made a pledge not to spy on the United States, "and that is something which I know that we have honored completely."

The ambassador declined to comment on U.S. government reports that Syria was building a nuclear reactor with North Korean assistance before it was bombed by Israeli planes last year.

Gillerman called Syria a "destabilizing influence" in the Middle East.

"You see Syria's hosting, very hospitably and warmly, over 10 terror organizations in Damascus," the ambassador said, adding that the country also supports Hezbollah, an anti-Israeli Shiite group in Lebanon with close ties to Iran and Syria.

"Basically, Syria and Iran, together with Hamas and Hezbollah, are the main axes of terror and evil in the world," the Israeli ambassador said.

TO SEE JIMMY CARTER'S TRUE ALLEGIANCES, JUST FOLLOW THE MONEY

Filed under Politics on Friday, May 02, 2008.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Jimmy Carter (Photo)

      By Lloyd Greif
      www.nydailynews.com

In embracing Hamas last week in direct defiance of the wishes of Congress and the President, ex-President Jimmy Carter raised the question of why he was granting precious prestige and credibility to an organization the U.S. government has designated a "foreign terrorist organization" since 1995.

If he was hoping to rekindle a flagging peace process, Carter's trip was doomed to failure; Hamas remains committed to the destruction of the state of Israel. So does this trip merely reflect a tremendous lack of judgment on Carter's part?
Perhaps the answer is more complicated. You see, the Carter Center, the ex-President's not-for-profit research and activist organization, has prospered over the years as a direct result of Arab largesse. Many of these "charitable" interests support Islamic fundamentalism and are vehemently anti-Israel.

The full extent of these connections is unknown because the amount and source of the Carter Center's funding is not public. But from various news reports and press releases, one can begin to sketch a very troubling picture.

For example, Saudi Arabia, the source of 15 of the 19 plane hijackers on 9/11 and whose royal family has funded terrorism outside the kingdom, has channeled tens of millions of dollars into the Carter Center over the years. In 1993 alone, the late King Fahd gifted $7.6 million, while more recently, the king's nephew, Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, donated at least $5 million to the Carter Center. The Carter Center has a $36 million annual budget; these amounts are hardly insignificant to its ongoing operations.

Another million-dollar-plus backer is Sultan Qaboos sin Said, monarch of Oman. Considerable financial support comes from the United Arab Emirates as well.

There's more. In 2001, Carter received the $500,000 Zayed International Prize for the Environment and, the following year, praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi-based Zayed Center for Coordination and Follow Up.

The Zayed Center has repeatedly hosted anti-Semitic Holocaust deniers, supported terrorism and asserted that there is an international conspiracy of Jews and Zionists for world domination, and that a Jewish-American conspiracy perpetrated the atrocities of 9/11.

It would seem that all of this money is not without its influence. Contrast Carter's relentless criticism of Israel, the most modern and democratic country in the Middle East, to his appreciation of such authoritarian countries as the UAE, which he described as an "almost completely open and free society."

Whether the United States can or should interrupt this stream of funding to Carter's operations, it at the very least should not supplement it.

Yet - believe it or not - the United States government itself has been providing millions of dollars to the Carter Center over the years. Representative Joe Knollenberg (R-Mich.) estimates that the center received $19 million in federal funding since 2001 alone, and has called for passage of a bill that would immediately cut off all federal financing for the center.

Carter is free to travel around the world, stir up trouble, and cheer on terrorists and terrorist sympathizers. But U.S. taxpayers should not help him do this. And Carter should finally come clean and disclose the amounts and sources of all foreign funding for his center.

Just as the American public has a right to know whether a scientist researching the root causes of global warming is being funded by major oil companies, we should know who is supporting Carter's lobbying efforts to bring "peace" to the Middle East.

It is indeed a sad day in American history when a former President lowers himself to becoming a propaganda tool for terrorists bent on harming our country and the democratic principles by which we live - and we cannot even discover who is paying his bills.

      April 17, 2008
      Carter, Once Again, Inspires Censure

Jimmy Carter, whose legacy is already stained by his distorted and error-filled book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, is once again on the receiving end of dismayed criticism as a result of his decision to meet with leaders of the Hamas terror organization.

Shmuel Rosner, Ha'aretz's chief US correspondent, writes that the decision of Israel's Prime Minister and Defense Minister not to meet with Carter during the former president's Middle East trip — a decision apparently in response to Carter's insistence on meeting with Hamas — was justified. (Rosner also describes Carter's book as being "nothing but a concoction of exaggerations, inventions, distortions and lies.")

Michael Kraft, a former State Department counterterrorism adviser, writes in the Baltimore Sun that

For a high-profile person such as Mr. Carter to put the gloss on Hamas and publicly meet with its leader at this stage only encourages Hamas to believe that if it remains steadfast in its "resistance" and rejectionist rhetoric, the West will try to make deals or concessions without Hamas having to end terrorism and its opposition to Israel's existence. ...

Mr. Carter's well-publicized meeting plans amount to rewarding terrorists in advance without any negotiations.

A Washington Post editorial today similarly criticizes Carter for lending undue legitimacy to Hamas. The editorial asserts that

no act of terrorism is out of bounds for the Hamas leader [Mahmoud al-Zahar], who endorses the group's recent ambush of Israeli civilians working at a fuel depot that supplies Gaza. The "total war" of which he speaks was initiated and has been sustained by Hamas itself through its deliberate targeting of civilians, such as the residents of the Israeli town of Sderot, who suffer daily rocket attacks.

These facts would hardly need restating were it not for actors such as Mr. Carter, who portray Hamas as rational and reasonable.

The Post takes Carter to task

Democratic Congressmen Howard Berman and Gary Ackerman wrote a letter to Carter explaining that "The legitimacy and prestige that Hamas will derive from your visit will be seen in the region as a clear demonstration that violence pays."

Perhaps the most scathing commentary is by the opinion editor of Lebanon's Daily Star, Michael Young. Under the headline "Jimmy Carter: A fool on a fool's errand," Young describes the idea, promoted by Carter and others, that meeting with Hamas will enlighten its supposedly pragmatic leaders on the benefits of peace and negotiation, and counters: "You can almost hear Khaled Meshaal gasping at the naivete of such sweeping positivism, as he prepares to score points off his solemn American visitor." He adds:

There is also a valid case to be made that Hamas is not interested in a peace treaty with Israel, because its ultimate ambition is to liberate the whole of Palestine. Certainly, that's what the movement demonstrates day in and day out. Meshaal has declared that Hamas would accept a deal on the basis of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, but has added a key caveat that this must also include a right of return for the Palestinian refugees of 1948 to their places of origin. For Israel this is a non-starter on demographic grounds, and Meshaal knows it. ...

That's why Jimmy Carter is on a fool's errand, complicating an already complicated situation. It's often said that Carter has been a better ex-president than president. That's no compliment, so ghastly was his tenancy of the White House - the Camp David accords notwithstanding. Peace may be a long way away between Palestinians and Israelis, but Carter won't speed things up any by turning into Meshaal's patsy.

      NEW_JERSEY_SCIENCE_ FICTION_FANS
Wants you! Our Science Fiction group is for everyone 21 or older
regardless of background or marital status. Younger fans should find
      another group.
Please introduce yourself when you join and
periodically as new members keep joining. We plan to get together at
restaurants and to go to movies. We will see them in movie theaters,
and, if people are kind enough, on people's home VCRs, or DVD
players, for the technologically advanced among us. Buy your own
movie tickets. Buy your own meals at Restaurants. Hopefully a
typical event would involve going to a Science Fiction Movie and
then to a Restaurant to discuss the movie we just saw.
Are you a single Science Fiction fan looking for a soulmate? Perhaps
you will find that person here. This club is not a New Jersey
singles group per se, and is open to anyone over 21, regardless of
background or marital status, nonetheless, love is a good thing.

Many science fiction fans in New Jersey also happen to be Jewish.
Most science fiction fans are male. For the single Jewish woman in
New Jersey joining a science fiction group may be the ideal way to
find her ideal man. Unlike most singles events, which tend to be
attended by more women than men, most science fiction events are
attended by more men than women.

c-span, also known as C-SPAN provides much valuable information.
      However, we are
      distressed that programs like
Washington Journal on c-span seem to provide a forum for
anti-Semites and enemies of Israel and the Jewish people in
general who seem to not only call into that t.v. show, but get
      through, and get
on the air, where they are seldom interupted or cut off by the show's
moderators. We feel that a 2 minute delay could enable the show's
      moderators to
screen out the anti-Semites and enemies of Israel and the Jewish
      people, however
no such 2 minute delay seems to be in place. Moreover the moderators
      of that
show and others do not seem to be of a mind to cut off the anti-
      Semites and
other enemies of Israel and the Jewish people in general who
      regularly call into
      that show and others
on c-span. We have therefore created this Yahoo Group in the hopes
      that members
of the group will become regular viewers of c-span and will call in
      regularly to
Washington Journal and other c-span call in t.v. shows, to support
      Israel and
the Jewish people and to counter the anti-Semites and other enemies
      of Israel
and the Jewish people whose calls are regularly aired on c-span. We
      also hope
that members of our Yahoo Group will contact their U.S.
Senators and members of Congress and President Bush at
http://www.whitehouse.gov to see what can be done about
      the situation at c-span.

groups that meet in real life please post the information about them.
There are many avenues for Jewish activism. Support of Israel,
Support of the Jewish people, Opposition to anti-Semitism, to name a
      few.
We believe that it is vital for Jewish survival that single Jews
meet other single Jews, marry one another, and raise their children
as Jews. Because there is a hole in our calendar from Friday night
to Saturday night during which many single Jews go to non-Jewish
singles events, meet non-Jews, marry non-Jews, and have children
from those marriages who are not raised as Jews, the Jewish people
faces a very severe problem. We urge everyone who reads this to
contact his or her Rabbi and demand that his or her Rabbi hold
regular Jewish singles Onegs on Friday nights.
We feel that it is vitally important that single Jews go to Jewish
singles events and meet other Jewish singles at those events.
If you know anyone who happens to be Jewish who is hosting a
singles event please ask him or her to consider hosting events just
      for Jewish singles.
We also offer the opportunity at our on line Jewish singles groups

      http://www.zoa.org/content/about_us.asp

      What is the ZOA?

Since its founding in 1897, the Zionist Organization of America has been fighting for the Jewish people and the Land of Israel. Under the leadership of such illustrious presidents as Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, Rabbi Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, and current National President Morton A. Klein, the ZOA has been on the front lines of Jewish activism.

With a national membership of over 30,000, and chapters throughout the United States (including Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, North Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, South Jersey and Washington D.C.), the ZOA today works to strengthen US-Israeli relations, through educational activities, public affairs programs, working every day on Capitol Hill, and by combating anti-Israel bias in the media, textbooks, and on campuses.

Wherever our message is needed, our voice is being heard.

The ZOA is the only organization that documents and exposes Palestinian Arab violations of the Road Map plan. The ZOA leads the efforts on behalf of American victims of Palestinian Arab terrorism. The ZOA's campaigns have repeatedly led to the defeat of hostile critics of Israel who were nominated for important government positions.

The ZOA has played a key role in Congress regarding victims of terrorism, keeping Jerusalem unified under Israeli sovereignty, fighting Hamas and Fatah, and working on the imposition of sanctions on Syria and Saudi Arabia.

The ZOA's growing Campus Activism Network organizes college students to combat Arab propaganda on campuses from coast to coast. The ZOA regularly brings student activists to Israel for leadership training programs; we are preparing the Jewish activist leadership of the future.

The ZOA's Center for Law & Justice works through the courts to help Israel and the Jewish people. The Center has filed suit against the State Department for ignoring the law requiring that "Jerusalem, Israel" be stamped on the passports of U.S. citizens who are born there. The Center also helped bring about the shutdown of ten pro-terrorist web sites. The ZOA initiated a groundbreaking case under federal civil rights laws to rectify the anti-Semitic/anti-Israel climate on campus.

The ZOA speaks out for Israel - in reports, newsletters, and other publications...in speeches in synagogues, churches, and community events, in high schools and colleges from coast to coast...in e-mail action alerts...in op-eds and letters to the editor...in radio and television appearances by ZOA leaders.

Always on the front lines of pro-Israel activism, ZOA has made its mark.

"The ZOA is the most credible advocate for Israel on the American Jewish scene today."

      The Wall Street Journal
"The ZOA is one of the most important and influential Jewish groups in the U.S. today."

ZOA: Jimmy Carter May have Violated The Logan Act By Unauthorized Negotiations With A Foreign Government & Terror Group

      April 24, 2008
      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
      Contact: Morton A. Klein
      Phone 1: 212-481-1500 Print | Email

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has noted that, in his recent visit to Syria for talks with President Bashar Assad and Khaled Mashaal, the head of Hamas, a recognized terrorist group on the U.S. terrorism list, former President Jimmy Carter may have violated the Logan Act (1799) which forbids private citizens, no matter how prominent, from conducting negotiations with a foreign government.

President Carter is reported to have said, following his meetings in Damascus, that "Syrian leaders told him, he said, that 'about 85 percent' of the issues between Syria's government and Israel had been resolved in prior negotiations and that it wanted a peace deal 'as soon as possible' … Mr. Carter also said that what he learned about Syrian intentions toward Israel might prove more significant than the Hamas agreement. He asserted that Mr. Assad had said that there were only a few details left to work out on a full peace treaty but that the Bush administration was discouraging Israel from proceeding because of the Americans' other concerns about Syria, especially related to Iraq. 'All of our group were surprisingly impressed with his strength and knowledge of the details in contrast to what we had heard from propaganda,' Mr. Carter said of the Syrian president. He emphasized that for Syria , a deal with Israel had to be brokered by the United States . While Mr. Assad has an alliance with Iran , Mr. Carter contends that the relationship is an alternative to ties with the United States and the West rather than Mr. Assad's first choice. He said he expected that Mr. Assad would be willing to separate from that alliance because he wants full peace with Israel" (Ethan Bronner, 'Carter Says Hamas and Syria Are Open to Peace,' New York Times , April 22, 2008).

Carter is also reported to have said that, following his meetings in Damascus , Hamas had promised to respect the creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip negotiated by Mahmoud Abbas' Palestinian Authority (PA) if it were ratified by a referendum of Palestinians. However, the New York Times also reports, "But Khaled Meshal, the Hamas leader with whom Mr. Carter met in Damascus , gave a televised news conference late Monday in which he seemed to contradict Mr. Carter's statements. 'Hamas accepts the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and with full and real sovereignty and full application of the right of the Palestinian refugees to return, but Hamas will not recognize the state of Israel,' Mr. Meshal said." Though shunned by the Olmert government, Carter conveyed messages to Israel from Mashaal, including a statement that Hamas might be willing to accept the right of Israel to "live as a neighbor next door in peace" (Hana Levi Julian, 'Carter's self-appointed mission fails,' Israel National News , April 21, 2008).

The Logan Act (1799) states in § 953 regarding "Private correspondence with foreign governments" that "Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply himself, or his agent, to any foreign government, or the agents thereof, for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects" (1 Stat. 613, January 30, 1799, codified at 18 U.S.C. § 953 (2004); U.S. Code Collection, '§ 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments,' Cornell University Law School website).

Hamas-connected terrorists have perpetrated attacks on Americans, including the 1983 Beirut suicide bombing of the U.S. Marines barracks that led to the murder of 242 U.S. servicemen on a peace-keeping mission. This was the largest slaughter of Americans by any terrorist organization in the world until the Al-Qaeda attacks of September 11, 2001.

      Record of Hamas anti-U.S. statements:

      · Abdel Aziz Rantisi: Following President Bush's criticism of Hamas, after Hamas claimed responsibility for a suicide attack in Israel , Rantisi stated "President Bush has become Islam's biggest enemy" (San Francisco Chronicle , August 23, 2003).

      · Sheikh Ahmed Yassin: "Bush must understand that religious people do not fear threats. Islam is stronger than Bush's regime, stronger than Bush and stronger than his state and Islam will win." Yassin predicts Bush "will be defeated, in Afghanistan , in Iraq , in Palestine and in all the Muslim lands" (Reuters, September 24, 2003).

      · Abdel Aziz Rantisi: "Bush is the enemy of God, the enemy of Islam and Muslims. America declared war against God. Sharon declared war against God and God declared war against America , Bush and Sharon . The war of God continues against them and I can see the victory coming up from the land of Palestine by the hand of Hamas" ( Fox News , March 28, 2004).

      · Khaled Meshaal: "Were the entire umma (Muslim peoples) to fight as well as the Palestinians and Iraqis "in Rafah, Jenin and Falluja, then by God we will defeat both the United States and Israel " (Reuters, April 19, 2004).

      · Hamas statement: "Hamas is condemning the U.S vote and stating that Hamas considers the U.S as an enemy and as an accomplice to the Israeli enemy aggression against the Palestinians. Hamas regards the U.S position as a criminal act that puts her in a confrontation with "weak" nations. The U.S will face responsibility for its position as an accomplice with Israel to the animosity" (Press Release, October 6, 2004).

      · Khaled Mashaal: "We say to this West, which does not act reasonably, and does not learn its lessons: By Allah, you will be defeated. You will be defeated in Palestine , and your defeat there has already begun. True, it is Israel that is being defeated there, but when Israel is defeated, its path is defeated, those who call to support it are defeated, and the cowards who hide behind it and support it are defeated. Israel will be defeated, and so will whoever supported or supports it. America will be defeated in Iraq . Wherever the [Islamic] nation is targeted, its enemies will be defeated, Allah willing. The nation of Muhammad is gaining victory in Palestine . The nation of Muhammad is gaining victory in Iraq , and it will be victorious in all Arab and Muslim lands. 'Their multitudes will be defeated and turn their backs [and flee].' These fools will be defeated, the wheel of time will turn, and times of victory and glory will be upon our nation, and the West will be full of remorse, when it is too late … I say to the [European countries]: Hurry up and apologize to our nation, because if you do not, you will regret it. This is because our nation is progressing and is victorious. Do not leave a black mark in the collective memory of the nation, because our nation will not forgive you. Tomorrow, our nation will sit on the throne of the world. This is not a figment of the imagination, but a fact. Tomorrow we will lead the world, Allah willing. Apologize today, before remorse will do you no good. Our nation is moving forwards, and it is in your interest to respect a victorious nation … The German [Chancellor Angela] Merkel pops up and says: Democracy and success in the elections are not sufficient for Hamas to gain legitimacy. To hell with you all" ( Damascus ' Al-Murabit mosque, Al-Jazeera TV, February 3, 2006).

      · Mahmoud al-Zahar: On the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi: "We are dead sure that the assassination of any of the people [like al-Zarqawi] who are resisting will not ... end the resistance" (Jerusalem Post , June 8, 2006): Hamas statement: "With hearts full of faith, Hamas commends brother-fighter Abu Musab ... who was martyred at the hands of the savage crusade campaign which targets the Arab homeland, starting in Iraq" (Jerusalem Post , June 8, 2006).

      · Hamas' Al Aqsa TV: Broadcasts a puppet show showing child stabbing and killing President Bush ('Puppet show from Hamas TV shows child stabbing Bush,' Fox News , March 31, 2008)

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, "President Carter was formally advised by the State Department not to undertake this trip to Syria . He also met with the head of Hamas, a terrorist group that has deliberately shed American lives and made the most vicious statements about America , including expressing hope for America 's defeat and downfall, in addition to being dedicated in its Charter to the destruction of Israel (Article 1%) and the murder of Jews (Article 7). President Carter's discussions with Meshal, leading to a Hamas 'offer' of a ten-year truce in return for the creation of a Palestinian state, were repudiated rightly by the State Department, with spokesman Tom Casey stating that, despite 'all this language about truces and other kinds of issues. But the bottom line is, Hamas still believes in the destruction of the state of Israel ; they don't believe Israel has a right to exist,' and 'that nothing has changed.'

"However, President Carter's actions in discussing these issues in Damascus are not meaningless in a moral and legal sense. It is therefore clear from the record that President Carter clearly sought to negotiate with Hamas, despite it being a murderous terror group that is not recognized by the U.S. and that he also conducted talks with the Syrian leadership on major diplomatic issues that are the sole responsibility of the U.S. government. Moreover, Hamas clearly is "in dispute" with the U.S. in its efforts to eliminate Israel , a close U.S. ally, and in its record of terror and violence against the U.S. and American citizens. Any dealings at all with Hamas is surely a matter which only the U.S. government can decide, rightly or wrongly, to pursue.

"President Carter claims that he was merely on a 'fact-finding mission' and that he did more than just receive information from his interlocutors, but this makes no sense. Reportage on his visit clearly indicates that he tried to broker diplomatic deals regarding Syrian peace negotiations with Israel and a Hamas cease-fire. That is a blatant usurpation of governmental powers and responsibilities by a private citizen and as such may well be a violation of the Logan Act.

"The Bush Administration should seek legal advice on which measures might be appropriate in dealing with President Carter's possible breach of the Logan Act."

Did Obama have a Muslim childhood?
      By DANIEL PIPES

As Barack Obama's candidacy comes under increasing scrutiny, his account of his religious upbringing deserves careful attention for what it tells us about the candidate's integrity.

Obama asserted in December, "I've always been a Christian," and he has adamantly denied ever having been a Muslim. "The only connection I've had to Islam is that my grandfather on my father's side came from that country [Kenya]. But I've never practiced Islam."

In February, he claimed, "I have never been a Muslim.... other than my name and the fact that I lived in a populous Muslim country for four years when I was a child [Indonesia, 1967-71] I have very little connection to the Islamic religion."

"Always" and "never" leave little room for equivocation. But many biographical facts, culled mainly from the American press, suggest that, when growing up, the Democratic candidate for president both saw himself and was seen as a Muslim.

      • Obama's Kenyan birth father: In Islam, religion passes from the father to the child. Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. (1936-1982) was a Muslim who named his boy Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.

      • Obama's Indonesian family: His stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, was also a Muslim. In fact, as Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng explained to Jodi Kantor of The New York Times</>: "My whole family was Muslim, and most of the people I knew were Muslim." An Indonesian publication, The Banjarmasin Post, reports a former classmate, Rony Amir, recalling that "All the relatives of Barry's father were very devout Muslims."

      • Obama's Catholic school in Jakarta: Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press reports that "documents showed he enrolled as a Muslim" while at a Catholic school during first through third grades. Kim Barker of The Chicago Tribune confirms that Obama was "listed as a Muslim on the registration form for the Catholic school."

      • The public school: Paul Watson of The Los Angeles Times learned from Indonesians familiar with Obama when he lived in Jakarta that he "was registered by his family as a Muslim at both schools he attended." Haroon Siddiqui of The Toronto Star visited the Jakarta public school Obama attended and found that "Three of his teachers have said he was enrolled as a Muslim." Although Siddiqui cautions that "With the school records missing, eaten by bugs, one has to rely on people's shifting memories," he cites only one retired teacher, Tine Hahiyari, retracting her earlier certainty about Obama's being registered as a Muslim.

      • Barack Obama's public school in Jakarta, Koran class: In his autobiography, Dreams of My Father, Obama relates how he got into trouble for making faces during Koran studies. Indeed, Obama still retains knowledge from that class: Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times reports that Obama "recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them [to Kristof] with a first-rate accent."

      • Mosque attendance: Obama's half-sister recalled that the family attended the mosque "for big communal events." Watson learned from childhood friends that "Obama sometimes went to Friday prayers at the local mosque." Barker found that "Obama occasionally followed his stepfather to the mosque for Friday prayers." One Indonesia friend, Zulfin Adi, states that Obama "was Muslim. He went to the mosque. I remember him wearing a sarong" (a garment associated with Muslims).

      • Piety: Obama himself says that while living in Indonesia, a Muslim country, he "didn't practice [Islam]." Indonesians differ in their memories of him. One, Rony Amir, describes Obama as "previously quite religious in Islam."

OBAMA'S HAVING been born and raised a Muslim and having left the faith to become a Christian make him neither more nor less qualified to become president of the United States. But if he was born and raised a Muslim and is now hiding that fact, this points to a major deceit, a fundamental misrepresentation about himself that has profound implications about his character and his suitability as president.

The writer is director of the Middle East Forum and is the Taube/Diller distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. "

Debbie Schlussel: Obama's "Debunking" of Islamic Background Raises More Questions

      By Debbie Schlussel

I've been getting a lot of e-mails from ostriches, in light of yesterday's stories in which Senator Barack Hussein Obama allegedly "debunks" the Insight Magazine story and other charges--first made on this site--about his Muslim background.

But apparently ostriches can't read. Because Obama's alleged "debunking" didn't debunk a thing. It raised more questions. For starters, many have cited an AP story and a CNN story, both of which sent "reporters" to check into the Muslim school that Obama attended. All of Al-AP's Muslim "reporters" in Indonesia tell us that the school, SDN Menteng 1, is a public school, NOT an Islamic school or madrassa (which literally means "academy"), as Hillary Clinton's camp claims in the Insight Story.

The vice principal of the school, Akmed Solichin, tells AP that

Most of our students are Muslim, but there are Christians as well. Everyone's welcome here. . . it's a public school.
And we should trust him because Muslims never lie or propagandize. Taqiyyah is a concept in Hinduism or maybe atheism? The same goes for the denials of Indonesia's Islamofascist-dominated Ministry of Religious Affairs, which denies the school is Islamic. They hate America and would love one of their own in the White House, but they would never lie.

More important, in his own two autobiographies, Obama writes that his teacher at the school sent a note home to his mother that Obama made trouble by making faces while the class was studying the Koran. Uh, sorry, but public schools DO NOT study the Koran. Islamic schools do. And which suras was Obama studying? How about the many suras that preach deception and killing of Infidels? It's doubtful that the school didn't teach those. It's more likely that they did. And which violent Hadiths did the school teach? We'll never know. And Obama won't be trumpeting them.

So Christians and others are welcome at the Muslim school Obama attended. That proves nothing. Everyone (except women) would be welcome in most Islamic schools around the world--a great opportunity to indoctrinate and convert them. How do you think Adam Gadahn a/k/a Azzam Al-Amriki learned about Islam before he became a fully converted, educated Muslim? It wasn't by osmosis.

And finally, there is the glaring red flag on Obama's attendance at Fransiskus Assisi, a Catholic school.

      AP reports this:

At first, Obama attended the Catholic school, Fransiskus Assisi, where documents showed he enrolled as a Muslim, the religion of his stepfather.
The document required that each student choose one of five state-sanctioned religions when registering _ Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic or Protestant. Gibbs said he wasn't sure why the document had Obama listed as a Muslim.

Gee, if he wasn't a Muslim, but a Catholic, why would a Catholic identify as a Muslim in a Catholic school? He and his parents were trying to hide his Catholic background from a Catholic school?

I don't know about him, but when my parents enrolled me--a Jew--at Akiva Hebrew Day School, they didn't tell Rabbi Schostak that I, Debbie Schlussel, am a Muslim . . . just to make me sound more exotic.

And I doubt that's the reason Obama self-identified as a Muslim at Catholic school.

The real reason might just be the logical one: that it's the truth. That he actually was a Muslim.

One other thing: Obama told NBC's Today Show:

Me going to school in Indonesia for two years at a public school there at the age of 7 and 8 is probably not going to be endangering in some way the p<br/><br/>(Message over 64 KB, truncated)

We are an educational organization created to support an undivided Israel.
AFSI was founded in 1970 as an American counterpart to the Land of Israel Movement, asserting Israel’s historic, religious, and legal rights to the land re-gained in the 1967 war. AFSI has argued consistently that a strong, territorially defensible Israel is essential to U.S. and global security interests in the region, and that the “two-state solution,” would endanger the world, while bringing the dissolution of Israel.
We are a national organization with chapters throughout the country and members throughout the world. All are dedicated to the premise that a strong Israel is essential to Western interests in the Middle East, and that the Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and the Golan are the best guarantee against strategic vulnerability, as were the Gush Katif communities.
AFSI supports a policy of “peace for peace” between the Arab states and Israel, and rejects “peace for territory.” AFSI opposes spending U.S. tax dollars, estimated to be in the billions, to fund a phantom “peace” plan.
Send a message to the detractors of Israel in the media, the Administration, and the public by joining AFSI and becoming active in your community chapter.

        What is the ZOA?

Founded in 1897, the Zionist Organization of America (“ZOA”) is the oldest pro-Israel organization in the United States. With offices around the country and in Israel, the ZOA is dedicated to educating the public, elected officials, media, and college/high school students about the truth of the ongoing and relentless Arab war against Israel. ZOA is also committed to promoting strong U.S.-Israel relations. ZOA works to protect Jewish college and high school students from intimidation, harassment and discrimination, and in fighting anti-Semitism in general.
The ZOA’s campaigns have repeatedly led to the defeat of hostile critics of Israel who were nominated for important government positions.
The ZOA has played a key role in Congress regarding victims of terrorism, keeping Jerusalem unified under Israeli sovereignty, fighting Hamas and Fatah, and working on the imposition of sanctions on Syria and Saudi Arabia.
The ZOA’s growing Campus Activism Network organizes college students to combat Arab propaganda on campuses from coast to coast. The ZOA regularly brings student activists to Israel for leadership training programs; we are preparing the Jewish activist leadership of the future.
The ZOA’s Center for Law & Justice works through the courts to help Israel and the Jewish people. The Center has filed suit against the State Department for ignoring the law requiring that “Jerusalem, Israel” be stamped on the passports of U.S. citizens who are born there. The Center also helped bring about the shutdown of ten pro-terrorist web sites. The ZOA initiated a groundbreaking case under federal civil rights laws to rectify the anti-Semitic/anti-Israel climate on campus.
The ZOA speaks out for Israel – in reports, newsletters, and other publications…in speeches in synagogues, churches, and community events, in high schools and colleges from coast to coast…in e-mail action alerts…in op-eds and letters to the editor…in radio and television appearances by ZOA leaders.
Always on the front lines of pro-Israel activism, ZOA has made its mark.
“The ZOA is the most credible advocate for Israel on the American Jewish scene today.”
        The Wall Street Journal

“The ZOA is one of the most important and influential Jewish groups in the U.S. today.”

WE WON WE WON WE WON
I COULD KEEP WRITING THESE WORKS A MILLION TIMES AND IT STILL WOULDN'T BE ENOUGH.
This afternoon the Israeli Supreme Court rejected Arab appeals concerning  Beit HaShalom in Hebron, thereby paving the way for our return to the building.
It might be recalled: Mr. Morris Abraham and his family purchased Beit HaShalom for over a million dollars. The building, between Hebron and Kiryat Arba, was lived in by Jewish families for 22 months, before then Defense Minister Ehud Barak, expelled them, and had the building sealed.
The Israeli Municipal Court ruled that the building should be returned to its Jewish owners, ruling that the building had been legally sold. The Arabs appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court, which today rejected the appeal.
Presently, in order for us to return to the building, the Defense Minister, Moshe Bugi Yaalon, must sign a 'permit,' necessary to complete Jewish purchases in Judea and Samaria. This is a technical issue, and it is expected that the Defense Minister will sign the permits. Former Defense Minister Ehud Barak was quoted as saying that he (as Defense Minister) would sign the permits should the courts decide in our favor.
This is a huge victory for the Hebron Jewish Community. Innumerable prayers, hours, money, tears, and what not, were invested in this building.  Families with babies and small children lived in rooms without windows, through rain and snowstorms. Puddles of freezing water filled family apartments.
Yet dedication, determination, and faith, at its highest level were the name of the game. People refused, under any circumstances, to leave. Following a Supreme Court decision allowing the families to be expelled from the building, people's determination increased.
Following the expulsion, people never gave up. The court case dragged on, but in the end, justice has prevailed. We will move back into Beit HaShalom.
And my friends, let it be known, this is just the beginning... (Editor's emphasis)

1>LIVNI 'WILLING TO CEDE CONTROL OF JORDAN VALLEY'
        Gil Ronen
        Arutz Sheva
        Sept 16, 2013

Sources close to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu are once again expressing concern that Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who heads the Israeli negotiating team with the Palestinian Authority (PA), is undermining the prime minister's positions in the talks.

Daily newspaper Maariv quoted sources close to Netanyahu who said that Livni's positions differ from those of Netanyahu on the key issues of Jerusalem, eviction of Jewish communities and Israel's security arrangements in the Jordan Valley.

According to the report, Livni - who heads the left-wing Hatnua political party - is willing to pull out the IDF from the Jordan Valley which guards Israel's long eastern border, and let an international force take its place. Netanyahu vigorously opposes this, citing the region's crucial strategic importance.

In addition, Livni has agreed to divide Jerusalem between Israel and a future state of "Palestine" in Judea and Samaria, as well as a large scale eviction of Jews from communities in Judea and Samaria - whereas Netanyahu believes that communities need to remain under Palestinian sovereignty, with proper security arrangements.

Maariv reported three weeks ago that Livni has been making various generous offers in contacts with the PA and US representatives, while Netanyahu thinks that Israel should not give up its best cards in the early stages of negotiations, as it is not clear what the PA is willing to cede in terms of security arrangements.

"In Netanyahu's vicinity," the newspaper explained, "there is a feeling that the Americans, whom Israel is making every effort not to bring into the negotiations room, are eagerly using Livni's statements in their conversations with the Palestinians and thus weakening Israel's position in the talks."

There is widespread consensus among experts that ceding control of the Jordan Valley to any force but the IDF will make it extremely likely that missiles and other military hardware will be smuggled into Judea and Samaria, from where it could be used to target Tel Aviv with ease.

If a Palestinian state were to be established in all or the majority of Judea and Samaria, experts say such an arrangement would leave central Israel as narrow as 8 miles at some points, placing approximately 70% of Israel's population within firing-range of deadly mortars and rocket fire, and without the "strategic depth" to successfully defend against invasion.

Other sources close to the Prime Minister told Maariv that they were not aware of the aforementioned concerns regarding Livni.
