Tell It Like It Is: Women in the National Welfare Rights Movement

Come to this book signing party with author Mary Triece, a professor of communication at University of Akron and president of the IRTF Board of Trustees.

Mary Triece brings to light the welfare rights movement of the 1960s and early ‘70s, led and run largely by poor African-American mothers in the National Welfare Rights Organization. Women took their message to the streets and the halls of Congress, speaking for themselves in settings that were often hostile to them. The book presents an interdisciplinary study touching on communication, rhetoric, politics, feminist theory, and the intersection of race, class, gender and sexuality.
