      Dar Óma
      I was a beggar
      You threw me a smile

      I ran off
      delirious
      into the distance

      later, tired
      hungry
      I sat down

      now people toss me coins

I throw them back at them

      all I ever wanted
      was Your smile

      ~ Gabriel Rosenstock

*The selections form Uttering Her Name are addressed to Dar Óma, a Celtic
goddess, daughter of OGHMA who gave the gift of writing to the Celts.

I awake today as a crane

      a sandhill crane

      what am I

      what should I eat

      can I fly

      who are my enemies

      my friends

      where do I live

      what am I at all

      Bipeds doing what they do

      at war

      singing

      meditating

      I hear a soft breeze

      the lapping of water -

      I was here before

      THE GREAT QUESTION

      the neck of the flamingo
a question mark going the other way

was there ever a question in the first place

      (no need to answer this)

the water shimmers and the great questions
and answers of the world disappear

Ed. Note: Gabriel Rosenstock was inspired to write his poems by some photos that
appeared here recently, hope you do not mind the repitition. Alan Larus chose the poem for his photo.
