      If your eyes see
      And your ears hear
Not a doubt will you cherish -
And how naturally the rain drops
      From the eaves.

      - Ikkyu Sojun, from The New Social Face Of Buddhism, written by Ken
Jones and published by Wisdom publications, posted to DailyDharma

When I sit in my front yard, I don't sit in the same spot every
time. But on each occasion place my chair by a different plant.
Plants impart a unique feel to the mind. By the bird of paradise I
feel different than by the palms, or under the pine tree with its
cool somber cast. I can't tell you how it's different, but it is. An
octopus knows about these things, their skins mimic what they see.
Maybe I have a mollusk mind, a good thing to have when in good
      company.

Anyway, my neighbor has a cat. A proud looking tom, gray, almost
black, thick with hair and no tail, but for a proud stump he parades
always erect. This fearsome creature comes sometimes and honors me
by sitting by. He doesn't rub against my legs, or greet me in any
way, he just sit next to my shoes, as if they were his kind. And so
we share the communion of kindred silent minds-- the cat's, the
man's, the plant's. And when he leaves, he doesn't say good bye. No
good byes are needed in such eternal land.

      Watching the moon
      at dawn,
      solitary, mid-sky,
      I knew myself completely:
      no part left out.

Stephen Mitchell, posted to MillionPaths, by way of HarshaSatsang

Are you searching for your soul?
Then come out of your prison.

Leave the stream and join the river ...
      that flows into the ocean.

      Absorbed in this world ...
      you've made it your burden...

      Rise above this world
      There is 'another' vision ...

In the world there are invisible ladders,
leading step by step to the summit of heaven.
There is a different ladder for every group,
a different heaven for every path.
Each one is ignorant of the other's condition in this wide kingdom
      which
      has no end or beginning.
This one is amazed at that one and wonders why he is happy,
while that one is astonished at this one and asks why he is amazed.
God's earth is spacious: every tree springs up from a certain soil.
The leaves and boughs sing thanks to God:
      "What a fine, broad kingdom."
The nightingales hover around the fruiting blossom,
calling, "Give us some of what you drink."
      This discourse has no end.
