If you're lugging a heavy bag,
don't fail to look inside it
to see whether what is inside is bitter or sweet.
      If it's really worth bringing along, bring it;
      otherwise, empty your sack
and redeem yourself from fruitless effort and disgrace.
      Only put into your sack
that which is worth bringing to a righteous sovereign.

      - Rumi, Mathnawi IV: 1574-1577, version by Camille and Kabir Helminski from Rumi: Jewels of Remembrance, posted to Sunlight

Anger is fire in the mind,
Burning up the forest of your merits and blessings.
If you want to walk in the path of the budhisattvas,
Endure insults and guard your mind against anger.

      - The Buddha, from The Dhammapada,, tranlated by Eknath Easwaran, published by Nilgiri Press, posted to DailyDharma

Do what you feel like doing. Don't bully
yourself. Violence will make you hard
and rigid. Do not fight with what you
take to be obstacles on your way. Just
be interested in them, watch them,
observe, enquire. Let anything happen -
good or bad. But don't let yourself be
      submerged by what happens.

No object of desire is real,
no object of desire is worth your Peace.
If your house is desires, burn it down.
It is only the absence of desire that makes you
happy, so allow no desire to rise.
Just allow yourself to be dissolved by Love.
When there is no desire there is Love and Beauty.
If you do desire then only desire Peace
because what you think you will become:
Water poured in the Ocean becomes the Ocean.

Look at a tree, a flower, a plant.
Let your awareness rest upon it.
How still they are, how deeply rooted in Being.
Allow nature to teach you stillness.

When you look at a tree and perceive its stillness,
      you become still yourself.
You connect with it at a very deep level.
You feel a oneness with whatever you perceive
      in and through stillness.
Feeling the oneness of yourself with all things
      is true love.
