      The mind is a tornado
      that rips through the kingdom of peace
      and tears all that is beautiful and right
      into pieces
      hurling debris without prejudice
      through all corners of the universe

      Awareness of the power and destruction of the tornado
      is the agent that renders it impotent
      aborting the possibility for the tornado
      to twirl or to acquire one particle of dust

      Understanding the Finite and Infinite
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      The finite
      is nothing other than
      the Infinite
      narrowly defined.
      If Reality is one complete
      undivided and unbroken Whole,
      then everything you see
      is a manifestation of That
      which is Real and True.
      No guru.  No church.
      No dependency.
      Over the farmhouse,
      the wind in the trees.
      The fool by the signless
      signpost, burden forgotten,
      stands pointing the way.
      Here on the mountain
      where the path stops,
      you go on into the snow alone.
      Hell's gate is wide open
      and heaven shimmers in the mirage.
      The great sky is totally
      devoid of cloud.
      Quotes (!!!) Adyashanti
      I enjoyed looking at his website.
      Here's a nice excerpt:
      I meet a lot of people who think they are enlightened and awake
      simply because they have had a very moving spiritual experience. They
      wear their enlightenment on their sleeve like a badge of honor. They
      sit among friends and talk about how awake they are while sipping
      coffee at a cafe. The funny thing about enlightenment is that when it
      is authentic, there is no one to claim it. Enlightenment is very
      ordinary; it is nothing special. Rather than making you more special,
      it is going to make you less special. It plants you right in the
      center of a wonderful humility and innocence. Everyone else may or
      may not call you enlightened, but when you are enlightened the whole
      notion of enlightenment and someone who is enlightened is a big joke.
      I use the word enlightenment all the time; not to point you toward it
      but to point you beyond it. Do not get stuck in enlightenment.
      JERRY KATZ
      "Do not get stuck in enlightenment."
      I really like Adyashanti. I saw him speak a couple of times at Inner Directions. Me, I don't have any problem getting stuck in enlightenment. I'm too busy not thinking about purple flying elephants.
      My new flyer:
      Satsang with Unenlightened Spiritual Master Jerry Katz
      Do not think about enlightenment when you are here.
      ~~~

      U.S.M. Jerry Katz says:

      The world is not perfect as it is. Believe me! I'm planning a date in
      the near future when everyone in the world will have to stop what
      they're doing for a second so I can straighten them all out.

      Andrew Cohen
      Day 2 - June 13, 2002 New York City

      Very different quality of experience from yesterday's talk. Deeper.
      Talk itself was deeper. He said first thing he was going to take
      questions the whole time, not give a talk, that he didn't like to
      give a talk every time.

      Then he gave a talk.

      I purposely sat in a different seat than yesterday, to the side. I
      discovered he does, in fact, tend to look directly at a couple of
      people in front of him for most of the talk. I was happy to not be
      one of those people tonight, noticed there were a lot fewer thoughts
      about how I appeared to be responding.

      Some themes of the evening:

      Enlightenment as supremely rational. How "it" is, like the
      procreative instinct, totally impersonal and just as insistent.
      Like "it" is looking for a vehicle, and doesn't much care who that
      vehicle is.

      How "spiritual experiences" are not it. His awakening-knowing he
      would no longer have merely personal relationships.

      Grace + volition. Can't control the grace part, can control volition.

      Spiritual practice as purification of the desire.

      "Normal" involves a split, an unreliability, complexity, shadow
      selves. Enlightenment as the ultimate sanity, healing of the split
      (waking to the illusion that there ever was one), simplicity,
      groundlessness, constant dropping.

      Explanation of difference between psychological "ego" (self-
      organizing principle), and "ego" as in sense of separate self. Drop
      the second, not the first.

      Relationship-wanting to be free more than you want to be together.
      Stickiness of sex. Not creating karma. Anti-tantra.

      Yes, people have experiences around me, but it's not enough. You have
      to want it more than anything.

      I asked my question. Felt he was being straight with me. Clarified
      that he is saying there is a hierarchy of desire. That the desire for
      enlightenment is more important than anything else. That other
      desires are desires for something, this is a desire for an end.

      Does the impersonal nature of enlightenment make it meaningless? -
      drop this question for now.

      Transmission: A settling down. Clearing out.

      Passionate talking after. Interesting discussion w/ Dutch woman about
      the need for a teacher.  There's no conflict about it for me right
      now. Gratitude and indifference.

      Can fellowship exist without "in" and "out"? Without religious
      movement, coming together around a teacher?

      ALAN LARUS

      They must be the ones my teacher warned me about 30 years ago.

      She told me not to waste time in any gathering ,
      but to live an ordinary life and keep my mouth shut.

      So I did.
      And I have not met anybody claiming enligtenment.
      Not even using the word.

      The last 3 years I have surfed around and seen all these websites
      with strange discussions.
      So something seemed right when I found these groups.
      Nice to meet some ordinary people : )

      It took some reading to learn what was going on.

      A random pick from NDS!

      Alan

      I did go to a guru thing once, with flowers, I left when they
      began showing a movie of a man in a room with flowers.
      A bit disappointing, the poster said 'meet'.

      HARSHA from HarshaSatsangh

      Understanding and Recognizing the simplicity of Pure Being that stares It Self as It Self is spontaneous when investment in becoming something or appearing as something dries up.

      As long as one is caught up and invested in a role of teacher, student, mystic, profound thinker, avatar, great soul, great guru, etc., one misses the clarity of one's own presence.

      There is no freedom other than the freedom to be oneself. It lifts all burdens.

      Who are these gurus trying to impress with their techniques and methods to improve others? Instead of interviewing the gurus, we should interview their spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends/ and get the real story! :-).

      Love to all
      Harsha
