Chicago Park aerial photos
- Two aerial photos of Chicago Park have been posted.
The 1938 aerial photo is from the National Archives holdings at
Archives II in College Park, Maryland. It clearly shows the
relationship of the depot and fruit shed, there is a boxcar on the
siding, and the windows on the shed are open. At that time the
platform surrounded three sides of the fruit shed, and the
canvas "roof" covering may be on the framework over the plaform. The
photo is a detail of a print from the whole negative. It is difficult
to pin point the location of the water tank--it is somewhere in the
trees on the west side of the track.
The color photo was taken in May of 1996 and is looking eastward.
Richard Hendrickson was the pilot, and we teamed up for a flyover of
the NCNG route.
