RC&D Collected Lots of Household Hazardous Waste

The Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council hosted three Household Hazardous Waste collection events last week.  They were held in Neligh, Plainview and Wayne.  Citizens representing 110 households came from all around to properly dispose of items that they knew should not go into the landfill.  The results of the collections are as follows:

    Recyclables – 260#

    Acids – 6#

    Bases – 3#

    Pesticides – 940#

    Paint – 4420#

    Batteries – 740#

    Oil – 60 gallons

    Antifreeze – 23 gallons

    Fluorescent light bulbs – 189

    2-4D – 6.5 gallons

    Roundup – 6.5 gallons

    Mercury-containing items – 1#

Thanks goes to Red Willow County Household Hazardous Waste who was the contractor in charge of processing and disposing of the materials brought in, to the communities and volunteers for their support, and to a grant from the Department of Environmental Quality’s Waste Reduction & Recycling Incentive Grants Program.  The RC&D Council was pleased to provide this service to the six-county area.
