I have found Prolific versions that will and do work with W8
      for 32bit= 3.3.11.152
      for 64bit= 3.3.11.154

Just stay away from Prolific. There is a long standing bug in their
driver software that causes 8020 errors with the Visual Basic comm
      library: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841700

It *may* be possible to find a driver for your Prolific device that will
not cause these errors. You will spend more time trying to find it than
the cost of an FTDI usb to serial device. Newegg is a good place to buy
      this stuff.
