      There is initial version of the new feature "User defined contest" ready for
      testing. The installation file is available here:

      ftp://ftp.atigauge.com/Utilities/N1MM-testexeV9.12.4.exe

      This feature should allow creating new user defined contests. You will need
      to edit a text file with several contest settings according to the rules of
      the contest. Put it into a special folder UserDefinedContests (it will be
      created in N1MM installation folder during installation of the new exe) and
      it will be loaded just like other contest modules when the logger starts.
      Then select the contest from the list of available contests and see how it
      works. The name of the contest file can be anything but it is important to
      keep it's extension - .udc. There will be one sample file (Sample
      contest.udc) available for copying and modification.

      You are not getting the same flexibility as a programmer of the contest
      module has when creating the module using VB language but simple contest can
      be created and modified very quickly compared to a normal procedure. This
      should help those who would like to create contest module for regional
      contest and share it with limited group of people. You should be able to
      create contest that consists of several time periods and requires resetting
      dupes in the beginning of every time period.

      Please send your questions/reports direct to: na3m at arrl dot net.

            Pete,

            Yes, I missed that. No it is not just serial number, this is what you would
            like to see as a default exchange in the contest configuration window when
            you select the contest. It can be edited at the time when you configure the
            contest but at least you will know what type of information should be used
            as exchange.

            It could be "001" for serial number exchange, "MDC", Grid Square or some
            combination of letters and numbers. This value should match the settings of
            QsoErrorString if you are expecting the same type of exchange beeing sent
            back to you during the contest. In other words if the exchange in the
            contest is serial numbers then:

            QsoErrorString = Numeric

            and

            DefaultContestExchange = 001

            If the exchange is section abbreviation, then:

            QsoErrorString = Any

            and

            DefaultContestExchange = MDC

            For Grid Square it will be:

            QsoErrorString = Grid

            and

            DefaultContestExchange =FM18JE

            I will add this as a comments for the DefaultContestExchange contest setting
            next time.

                  Defined Contest folder and renamed it (saved as) to KVP.UDC.

                          This (and other improvements) can be done later. First I would like to fix
                          possible dangerous bugs that can cause logger crash.

                          There was one already found and fixed but there may be more of them.

                          Thanks, Pete, it works now as supposed. However, it would be fine to
                          define QSO points more flexible (say, 2 points CW, 1 point phone), but,
                          after all, it is upon contest sponsor to recalculate scores.

                                  Contests folder. But I did not see a different Logger exe file
                                  anywhere. Does it have a different name or does it just overwrite the
                                  existing one?

                                    Hi Greg.

                                    Renaming the .udc file itself does not affect the logger contest list at
                                    all. You can give those files any names you want, preferably the contest
                                    name.

                                    When logger starts it looks through all .udc files in the
                                    UserDefinedContests folder and reads all variables. The new contest gets
                                    created and configured based on the values stored inside the file. For
                                    example, the first parameter "Name" will define the name of the contest in
                                    the logger.

                                    Unfortunately you will not be able to configure udc file for FOXHUNT
                                    contest, it is quite different from other contests. I will write direct
                                    e-mail to you about how to solve the problem.

                                    Nick NA3M

                                    Hi Nick. I renamed the two UDC files to FOXHUNT. But when I run logger
                                    the option does not show.

                                      Mirko,

                                      This (and other improvements) can be done later. First I would like to fix
                                      possible dangerous bugs that can cause logger crash.

                                      There was one already found and fixed but there may be more of them.

                                      Thanks, Pete, it works now as supposed. However, it would be fine to
                                      define QSO points more flexible (say, 2 points CW, 1 point phone), but,
                                      after all, it is upon contest sponsor to recalculate scores.

                                          Now that I can create my own contest. Is there a possibility of getting the
                                          application so that I can create my own "MASTER.DTA file?

                                          Mirko,

                                          This (and other improvements) can be done later. First I would like to fix
                                          possible dangerous bugs that can cause logger crash.

                                          There was one already found and fixed but there may be more of them.

                                          Thanks, Pete, it works now as supposed. However, it would be fine to
                                          define QSO points more flexible (say, 2 points CW, 1 point phone), but,
                                          after all, it is upon contest sponsor to recalculate scores.

                                                If you have Morse Runner, you can create your own MASTER.DTA file. I got this tips many months ago from someone else.

                                                Get a copy of a "super check poartial" database. Put a copy in the same directory with your MASTER.DTA file in Morse Runner. Name the original something else (so you will still have it later). Now, rename your copy of the super-check partial database as MASTER.DTA.

                                                I copied one of the databases that had nothing except U.S. calls in it, and applied the above trick. Now I have two databases for use with Morse Runner (also written by VE3NEA) - one for calls from anywhere and one for calls strictly from the U.S.

                                                  Hi Nick,
                                                  Many thanks for your efforts on this project. I have a couple of issues that I would like your help with.

                                                  1) If I copy the Sample.UDC files as ABC.UDC, use this to generate a new log, then delete both the log and ABC.UBC, ABC still remains in the new log list. Maybe the UDC directory is not being rescaned.

                                                  2) Within ABC.UDC I have tried to use MultWindowType = ABC for a new section file.
                                                  If I make MultWindowType = RSGB it works. However renaming RSGB.SEC to ABC.SEC and using MultWindowType = ABC, does not. It appears to load, but garbage is display in the sections window.

                                                  What am I missing ?

                                                  73
