I was wondering if anyone have had issues with their boys teeth which
are related to MTM ? Mason has a high narrow palate, which I have read
is a a characteristic of MTM. His top front teeth came in with little
enamel, don't know if this is related to the MTM or not. The rest of
his teeth are fine. However he is now 4 1/2 and it does not appear
that all of his baby teeth have come in. He does see a dentist
regularly. Our concerns are with the high narrow palate and the baby
teeth not all the way in, plus permanent teeth coming, will this pose
a problem with crowding, something that may require another surgery?
We have been referred to a craniofacial team. I just wanted to hear of
any of your experiences in this area. Hope you are all well and had a
good holiday season. We finally had time to take down the old dried
out Christmas tree today and get the lights off the outside of the
      house. Mason is doing great

        Hi

Zak, aged 10 (birthday yesterday!!) has crowded teeth and we are waiting until all his baby teeth are out and his new ones are in before we consider taking action.  Obviously if he needs any extractions, it will be done under his specialist hospital (with a specialist orthodontist).  To complicate matters even more, Zak had an extra tooth (bottom front)!  This has also meant that he is slightly “goofy” (but then again, so am I and his sister has a brace!).  We may need to consider a brace but I don’t know how well he will tolerate this (due to his high arched palate, tendency to dribble and difficulty chewing anyway: we don’t want to make matters worse!)  I am more than happy to share our experiences as and when they crop up and I will keep this site posted for your interest!!

Take care and I hope Mason is doing well at the moment!

        Hi Shannon:

sorry to hear Javad was unwell but how lovely that you were able to keep him at home.  I hope he picks up quickly and is back to his old self.

        Love Wendy x

Yes, when we took Kyle to the dentist.  The first one told us his mouth was tooooo small.  He would have to have several teeth removed to make room the the others.  His molers are large and he already has his six year molers.  She wanted to do surgery to remove some of his teeth.  I took him to another dentist for a second opinion, she told me basically the same thing except she doesn't want to take any of his baby teeth out, she wants to wait until his adult teeth come in.  She said, if we took out the teeth now it would make it harder for the adult teeth to come in. unless it starts causing him any pain.   That we should wait until his adult teeth are in then take out whatever was causing the crowding and he may or may not need braces (that would be up to us as to how his teeth look after they are all in). That there is still time for his mouth to grow.  It did take longer for his baby teeth to come in once they started, but that is because he doesn't chew like other kids.  So its harder  for them to cut the skin.

Glad to hear Mason is doing good.

            Take care,
            Darlene
