Two Confirmed Dead in Gold-Mine Flooding in E. China City
      December 31, 2005

Rescuers recovered two bodies of the miners trapped in Thursday gold mine in Penglai City, east China's Shandong Province Saturday, three others were still missing, according to local government.

The flooding took place at around 7 a.m. Thursday morning when eight miners were working in the No. 8 shaft of the Hexi Gold Mine in Penglai.

Three miners were rescued at around 7:00 a.m. Friday and rescuers were searching for the three others missing, the provincial work safety administration said on Saturday.

Investigation showed that the miners might happen to dig through a nearby flooded waste mine and caused the accident, according to the administration.
