- Seven killed after tremor collapses mineMarch 12, 2004Prague - Seven miners were killed in an accident in the Czech Republic after they were buried under rubble set loose by a strong tremor, OKDO mining company spokesperson Vera Breiova said on Friday.
Five of the dead miners at the Lazy mine in the eastern Karvina region were Polish and two were Czech, Breiova said.
Four miners, who were also buried under the rubble, were rescued and suffered light injuries.
The accident happened 680m underground on Thursday just before 5pm (16h00 GMT).
It is the biggest tragedy in the Karvina mines since 30 miners died in an explosion and fire in 1990.___________________________________________________________
