Ancestry was started by a member of the LDS Church but was always a private company and not a part of the Church. Family Search was originally the IGI which

I understood that the Mormon Church (LDS) sold their site 'Ancestry' to a private company, yet kept a copy of their records and set it up as Family Search,

I'm sorry but this is not correct.  Most of my research is centered on Scotland-- esp. Dundee where my PAYNEs went from N. Ireland during the Irish Famine.
