Subject: mystery boat radio message
Im doing some research for a Discovery Channel show about ships that have disappeared in Lake Michigan and have come across a newspaper report dated August 1 2006 about the search for a mystery boat. It mentioned that several ham radio operators had alerted the coastguard after picking up a distress call made on the marine radio channel. The sailor was apparently taking on water and his 25-foot boat was sinking off Muskegon County . A coast guard search was eventually called off and as far as I can tell, it was never determined if it was a hoax or an actual sinking.
I would be very grateful if any of your members could shed any light on this. Im keen to find out which radio operators picked up the distress call and would be interested in talking to them about it.
