This evening highlights three distinct terroirs
with wines that Winemaker Pierre Seillan makes around the world:
      Verite (Sonoma, California)
Chateau Lassegue (St. Emilion, Bordeaux, France)
      Tenuta di Arceno (Tuscany, Italy)

Famous winemaker-vigneron-'extraordinaire' Pierre Seillan will join us in fashioning a matching-food-with-Seillan wine dinner, which will be held at Duo on July 11th. Pierre will be present to discuss his wines. Pierre will explain how he meticulously considers convergence of grape varieties, climate, soil exposition and winemaking technique. Pierre refers to this conjunction as droit du sol or "right of the soil".

Chef Maria Frumkin. Along with her husband Sommelier Charlie, have created an exciting 4-course menu designed to compliment Seillan's masterpieces perfectly:

FOIE GRAS RAVIOLI, WHOLE WHEAT DOUGH, BALSAMIC GLAZE

      2003 Arcanum I (Tuscany) $19.99 a bottle
Composition: 59% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot

      Review:
95 Points - Polished garnet hue. Uplifting aromas of black cherry, plum, charcoal, pencil and a puntent earthiness. This Tuscan beauty is loaded with cherry fruit and cured meat flavors with a charred oak nuance that punctuates the finish. Rather youthful and somewhat tannic; however, loaded with vibrant fruit for a long life. - The Wine News

      2003 Arcanum II (Tuscany) $19.99 a bottle
Composition: 68% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Sangiovese

      Review:
93 Points - Vibrant purple hue. Fresh aromas of plum, cherry, leather and pencil. Full & juicy, delivering tasty merlot fruit combined with coffee, cedar and mineral flavors. Greath length with stiff tannins and youthful acidity taking hold of the finish. - The Wine News

2003 Chateau Lassegue (St Emilion Grand Cru) $47.99 a bottle

Lassegue is the essence of opulent ripe and very rich Cabernet Franc with a dense Merlot character plus a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine expresses a delicacy, elegance and a high complexity. With a voluptuous, layered and complex structure, this wine is already showing an accomplished character, which reflects the limestone and clay of the hillsides.
Composition: 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet
      Barrel Aging: 18 months
      Production: 4700 cases.

2003 Chateau Vignot (St Emilion Grand Cru) $33.99 a bottle

The vines that "make" Chateau Vignot have a surface area of about seventeen acres and are located in the foothills on which the vineyard rests. The Chateau Vignot wine is aromatic, round and mature. It melts in the mouth with a long finish. This wine is very rich and complex with a charming character.
Composition: 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc
      Barrel Aging: 16 months
      Production: 2700 cases.

2002 Verite La Joie (Sonoma) $162.99 a bottle

Composition: 64.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28.5% Merlot, 7.0% Cabernet Franc, 0.3% Malbec Fruit Sourcing: Mayacamas Mountains, Bennett Valley

      Reviews:
98 Points, The Wine Advocate, Robert M. Parker, Jr., February 2005
"Deep ruby/purple color is followed by gorgeous aromas of black truffles, scorched earth, tobacco leaves, blackberry and cassis liqueur, and notions of minerals as well as acacia flowers. This stunning red can be drunk in 2-3 years or cellared for two decades."

94 Points, International Wine Cellar, Stephen Tanzer, May 2005
"Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, licorice and mocha on the nose. Densely packed and juicy, with sharply delineated dark berry and floral flavors. Large-scaled, but light on its feet owing to its lovely lift. Serious, gripping wine with a long, bright finish."

2002 Verite Le Desir (Sonoma) $162.99 a bottle
Composition: 52.7% Merlot, 41.2% Cabernet Franc, 5.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.0% Malbec
Fruit Sourcing: Mayacamas Mountains, Bennett Valley

      Reviews:
97 Points, The Wine Advocate, Robert M. Parker, Jr., February 2005
"Dense aromas of creosote, burning wood embers, blackberries, blueberries, and violets are offered in the full-bodied, fabulously complex perfume. Full-bodied, with tremendous complexity, a voluptuous texture, and flavors of plum liqueur, figs, chocolate, espresso, and minerals, this is a tour de force in winemaking. It is the most approachable of these three 2002s. Anticipated maturity: now-2020."

93 Points - International Wine Cellar, Stephen Tanzer, May 2005
"Dark ruby-red. Black cherry, mocha and licorice on the nose. Ripe, broad and dry; suave and sophisticated. Flavors of red berries lifted by floral and mineral components. Densely packed, backward wine, finishing with substantial dusty tannins."
