As for an update to FTDNA's Family Finder, I wrote Bennett Greenspan a few months ago and there was no update in the works anytime soon.

In an earlier post, you mentioned that 23 and Me had an edge over FTDNA. You commented that FTDNA still uses the Beta system. What sysytem does 23 and Me use that gives its autosomal results a better read?   And do you know if FTDNA is in the process of improving their program?

Yes Robert and this makes it a good marker to calibrate these STR estimates.

Here is a discussion myself and others had on Rootwsb DNA.

As the discussion went on those using STR methods to determine the age of E-V13 showed the line to be about a third the age of this find in Spain.

In recent studies slow mutating STR's and SNP's have been used to try and estimate the age but studies show STR's do not mutate in a random manner.

It was my impression that the E-V13 found in Spain from 7k years ago was determined from SNP testing. I don't know of haplotype info being available for those samples. As to the link you provided, they make reference to other study data but that would be modern haplotype data, wouldn't it?
