Re: [MexicanRevolution] The BEST Pancho Villa
- There are many errors in this article, or whatever it is, starting literally from the beginning:"Mejor morir a pie que vivir en rodillas." (Better to die on one's feet than live on one's knees.)
Dolores Ibarruri Gomez, "La Pasionaria"
She also said, "It is better to be the widow of a hero than the wife of a coward."
Both of these come from the Spanish Civil War.
Pancho Villa was himself an untutored master of the tactical use of the recently perfected machine gun. German military observers made widespread use of his tactics in the First World War, causing immense carnage to British troops. They also noted his use of the rails for rapid movements of his troops, and incorporated this into their strategy. The use of hospital cars was another of his innovations.
Villa's army was virtually destroyed by Obregón's use of barbed wire and from his study of the war in Europe.
