The Center for Diplomatic Research at the [Israeli] foreign ministry prepared a classified report
with recommendations for a diplomatic initiative to reestablish negotiations with the Palestinian
Authority (PA), Israel Radio reported Monday.
Among the recommendations, the report proposes a generous transfer of additional land to the PA that
would have been included in the third IDF redeployment scheduled in the Oslo accords.
It also proposes entering into negotiations with the Palestinians to reach a further interim
agreement and implementing immediate measures to ease the situation of the Palestinian population.
The report also included an analysis of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's personality
and noted ways in which pressure could be brought to bear on the Palestinian leader.
Far-right Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi (National Union -Yisrael Beiteinu), speaking in an
interview on Israel Radio said that the report was "an embarrassment to the Sharon government that
was founded by the majority of the nation saying no to (Foreign Minister Shimon) Peres"
Adding that the "paper deserves be filed in the drawer with the Oslo-Munich files...We need to take
back what we have already given them and not give them any more (land)."
Science Culture and Sport Minister Matan Vilnai (Labor) said that any initiative that would promote
a diplomatic solution was acceptable to him.
