10 December 2012 (Monday) - The pond in the field just east of the
Banksia tree at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens held a lone Hooded
Merganser. It might have been either a female, or a first-year male; in
the late-afternoon glare it was difficult to tell.

In the nearby field, there were three Cackling Geese along with several
      Canadas.

In the Banksia tree, three Acorn Woodpeckers were apparently collecting
nectar from the flowers, like big black-and-white Orioles. Pollen from
the flowers had turned their throats yellow!
