new additions to MEN checklsit
- 7 May 2012 - Recently two new species observations have undergone review and have been "ACCEPTED" for Mendocino County.
1) The Northern Wheatear, present from 205 October 2012 near Anchor Bay MEN was reviewed by the California Bird Records Committee and was ACCEPTED as a bonafide record for this species ...a very rare species for California. Since it is a CBRC "review species", the CBRC vote stands as record as long as that species is retained on the CBRC review list. (becomes species number 412 for MEN)
2) The December 2011 thru January 2012 Baltimore Oriole, as first identified by Al Demartini on the Fort Bragg CBC Jan 2, was reviewed by the Mendocino County Bird Review Committee (MCBRC) and was unanimously ACCEPTED with a 6 aye: 0 nay vote as the FIRST official record for this species in the county. This first year, immature female Baltimore Oriole becomes species number 413 for MEN.
Thanks to all who keep a close lookout for birds in Mendocino County ... it is because of you that such records and documentation become possible.
