Rock Doves Mendocino Headlands
- Spotted an interesting rock dove (ferel pidgeon) with the small group that nests on the south end of Goat Rock. This individual was almost the exact coloring of a Western gull with perfect gray coloring on the tops of the wings and otherwise bright white overall except a small gray mask on the eyes (pied adult). I found it interesting that the very wild coastal pidgeons here might be adapting to the coloration of the local gull species. Hey, it works for the gulls, why not for pideons? Evolution in action?
