5 October 5, 2010 - The Mendocino County Bird Records Committee reviewed
the 9-11 July 2010 Black-throated Green Warbler observation (found by Matt
Victoria in Russian Gulch State Park) and ACCEPTED (6 Aye: 0 Nay) it is the
first documented Mendocino County record. Incredibly, Matt identified the
bird by vocalization only, and the ID was confirmed by several observers who
all saw "bits and pieces" of the singing bird. The "summation" of all the
viewers "bits and pieces" portrayed all the key characteristics to
distinguish it from any other warbler, even ruling out Hermit x Townsend's
hybrid. The singing bird was taped by Jerry White, which also helped some
of the reviewers who were not so lucky as to hear or see the bird. Congrats
and thanks to Matt Victoria for his sharp ID skills and posting it quickly
on Mendobirds. Also thanks to all who sent in descriptions. Good Birding.
