We spent 4 days this week whitewater kayaking and birding on the Eel River along 162 from Outlet Creek to Dos Rios.
The cliff swallows are sitting on eggs in their nests under the 162 bridge that crosses the Eel by the confluence of Outlet Creek.
Twice we saw a peregrine falcon. Once cruising through the flock of feeding cliff swallows at the confluence of Outlet Creek and the Eel River. Our second sighting was of it carrying nesting material up toward the cliffs on the east side of 162 about a 1/2 mile south of Outlet Creek.
We also enjoyed sightings of many other birds including green herons, American dippers, common mergansers, a pair of wood ducks, and a bald eagle.
Best of days,
