- At noon today there were 4 canvasbacks at Mendocino Vineyard's (Beckstoffer) pond on Old
River Rd. This is just south of River School and Mill Creek Rd. on the west side of the road.
Also present were the usual coots, 3 mallards, 2 buffleheads, and 3 ruddy ducks.
- Tuesday, Jan. 24
Yesterday there were six male canvasbacks at Lake Pennyroyal and one female. Also one male and one female wood duck and an assortment of ring-neck ducks. The six hooded mergansers that had been hanging out there for a while were not in evidence.
- 30 December 2013 - Monday - There are at least 6 CANVASBACKs on the pond opposite (west side of Old River Road) the Fetzer Winery .... The pond is easily visible from Old River Road ... about 2 miles north of the Highway 175/Old Rover Road "round-a-bout". Other waterfowl on the pond included am. Wigeon, bufflehead, lesser scaup, ring-necked ducks, and common mergansers. Good birding. Bob Keiffer
