08/11-13/2014 -- Mid-morning I checked to see if ELEGANT TERNS, reported Monday 8/11, were still at Virgin Creek Beach.  The original report by Henri Bensussen, was a total of 19 birds.  This morning, there were 12 birds at the water's edge.  It was interesting to watch the begging juv/immature birds bugging the adults.  Most of the adults flew out to sea at different intervals, leaving two babysitters surrounded by the youngsters with their high-pitched calls.

Virgin Creek beach is west of Hwy 1, just north of the Fort Bragg city limits.  Walk north on the Haul Road to the bridge over the creek.  The terns were a short distance north of the mixed gull flock.
