      There are 2 Black Skimmers here now just north of Virgin Creek with a group of gulls.

      Will post photos of these beauties.

      Sat, 19 July 2014 --  This morning there were two continuing WILSON'S PHALAROPE and a single, immature LONG-BILLED CURLEW (different bird?).  Numbers are building of both Long & Short-billed Dowitchers, Black Turnstones, Surfbirds, Semipalmated & Blk-bellied Plovers, Least & Western Sandpipers.

      Around 2,500 to 3,000 By-the-Wind Sailors (Velella velella) apparently arrived last night on Virgin Creek beach and probably other spots.  I have not seen these beautiful little colonies for 3 or 4 years.  They like warm surface water, so hopefully this is a good sign for us (like the Black Skimmer ?).  

      Virgin Creek beach is part of MacKerricher SP, just north of the Fort Bragg city limits.  The official entrance trail is near the Montessori school.
