Ok, I understand much better, but have to ask why is it called "HIPPO"
therapy .. does HIPPO stand for something..?

Ok ok NO NO NO they are not doing vet work. The clients are on horseback
while the PT is working with them. For instance, I have a child with CP,
she has problems walking, but on horseback the movement of the horse
      mimicks
the movement that your hips make when you walk. It helps to strengthem
muscles that there are not a lot of other exercises for, improves
      balance
and PT is much more fun when you are a kid when you can ride your horse.
Also horses are wonderful as they mimick the emotions of the person
      riding.
So we tell Hannah that when she is feisty, her horse will be feisty.
      Lets
her understand in a very unique way that her feelings have an impact on
others, something not easy to teach in everyday settings to a 4 year
      old.

BTW.she started hippotherapy when she was two, not walking and not
      talking.
She graduated in August and is not only walking, but running everywhere
      and
talking.most of which I credit to Hippotherapy. Seems horses are much
      more
interesting to talk to that Mom's J

      Lin,

Hippotherapy is when PT or OT or in this case a LMT offers treatment
      while
on horseback. Very different than watching the clock and pretending to
run around naked ( okay I was part of a fair audience J ) So that is why
      we use those codes.

I also did a little research today and under NO circumstances is it
      covered
      by Medicare.

It's HYPNOTHERAPY. Why are you billing this with 97110 and/or 97112?

The correct code is 90880, it's also only covered by a licensed provider
      and
only in states where they are within their scope of practice. Medicare
      will
only cover it by an MD or psychologist certified to perform hypnosis.

      Hi,

I bill for 6 PT's and one has been exclusively using Hippotherapy for
      about
three years now. We bill as if she saw them in a clinical setting (ie
office). It is luckily still not singled out for payment purposes.
However with her not be a PT, I am not sur what codes she can use, we
      use
97110 and 97112. Hope that helps.

      Subject: [MedicalBillers] Billing Hippotherapy??

Does anyone have ANY experience with billing for Hippotherapy (horse
      therapy)??

I do mental health billing, but my close friend is a LMT along with
these qualifications: Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist,
and EAGALA level 1 trained. I want to be able to help her out here...

I do understand that most Hippotherapy sessions are actually mental
health providers, but this is falling into the physical therapy
aspect... hence the LMT... any ideas of resources?

She has two patients coming, one has a prescription and has
      Medicare... HELP!!!

      Thank you so much!!
