Group Description

A forum to share data about the descendants of Daniel/Donald McLean, John McLean, Sr. , and John McLean, Silversmith.

Recent Y-dna testing, and research has suggested that Daniel and John McLean, who are paternally related to each other, are not related in the same way to John McLean, Silversmith.

Daniel and John McLean Silversmith were once presumed to be brothers, and it appears that way in many family genealogies, suggesting that they were born in Scotland, traveled together, and both died circa 1829 in Iredell County, North Carolina. Now, we are not certain about all or any of that.

John (Silversmith), John Sr., and Daniel held property in Iredell County in the late 1700's and early 1800's at Buffalo Shoals Creek, Mooresville, and Elk Shoals Creek respectively.

John McLean, Sr, d. circa 1818 purchased property between the branches of Coddle Creek, near Mooresville, Iredell County, North Carolina. His relation to Daniel is now unclear. Descendants of John Sr. and John McLean, silversmith are welcome to join this group.

For the purpose of simplification, we will generally use the spelling "McLean," though the records vary. Other forms may be included from time to time, when in original material.

This group will be moderated to limit public access, controlled to provide a safe haven for sharing genealogical data, and limit unwanted SPAM.
