Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu.
In this digest:
Zakaat Al Fitr :: Amount, Payment Deadline, and Distribution
Introduction: Zakat-ul-Fitr was ordained upon us to purify the shortcomings of our fasting and to provide food for the needy. Allaah (subhanahu wata'ala) ordained zakaat-ul-fitr and He (subhanahu wata'ala) taught His Messenger (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) how to distribute it. It is not upon us to change this ruling but to obey with complete submission. The clear evidences show that zakaat-ul-fitr should be distributed in the form of food to the needy before the Eid prayer.
The time for collection: It is allowed to give this charity one or two days before Eid. This was the way the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would collect zakaat-ul-Fitr. Last time to give Zakaat-ul-Fitr is before the Eid prayer. Masjid Ibrahim will start collecting Zakaat-Al-Fitr from Monday, Oct 17th.
The amount: The amount of Zakaat-ul-Fitr is one saa (about 4 handfuls) of staple foods such as wheat or barley, etc. on the lower end and dates, meat etc. on the higher end. A person may give directly to the recipient if one has the ability to do so. Otherwise, it is permitted to pay the equivalent amount (estimated for this year from 4.00 or more or less depending on what kind of food a person wants to distribute) to Masjid Ibrahim.
Who should pay zakat al fitr: Anyone who has more than enough food at the end of the month of Ramadaan for a day and a night for his family, has to give zakat al fitr for himself and his family members. The head of the household pays for every member of the family (minor or adult). Even a miskeen who is qualified to receive zakat al fitr, if he/she has more than a day and nights food at home has to also pay zakat-al-fitr. It is obligatory on every Muslim man, woman whether young or old, free or slave, rich or poor. And Allaah knows best.
Who deserves zakat-al-fitr? Anyone who cant meet his end and is struggling with financial situation & cant have enough food to feed himself and his family is defined as miskeen. Such person can receive zakat-al-fitr. We welcome any Muslim in Austin to contact the mosque if he/she qualifies for zakat-al-fitr. You can email at admin@....
Distribution: Masjid Ibrahim ensures the amount is distributed as food to families before Eid in the Austin area first. In case of excess Zakat, Masjid Ibrahim sends Zakat-al-Fitr overseas to be distributed as food only through an organization recognized and authorized by the USA government. If anyone individually donates to another organization, make sure they distribute this money as food. Please visit the following links for a detailed discussion on this topic: http://www.masjidibrahim.org/articles/worship/zakat_fitr.htm http://www.masjidibrahim.org/articles/worship/zakat_fitrQA.htm

Eid Announcement from Masjid Ibrahim Alhamdulillaah, the month of Ramadaan is coming to an end and we are happy to announce that Eid will be either on Sunday, October 22nd or Monday, October 23rd depending on the moon sighting at the end of the month or Ramadaan. As we always declare that we follow the global moon-sighting, so anywhere in the world the moon is sighted and as long as the sighting is authentic, we will follow and declare the end of the month or Ramadaan as we declare the same way the beginning of the month of Ramadaan following the instruction of the Prophet (Sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam): Fast with its sighting and break your fast with its sighting.
Masjid Ibrahim will arrange for Eid prayer inshaAllaah. The location and timings will be announced soon.
Sheikh Jalal Abualrub is going to lead the Eid prayer organized by Masjid Ibrahim inshaAllaah.
Please keep us in your dua and we ask Allaah to pour His Special Mercy upon the community of Masjid Ibrahim and the whole Ummah in the last 10 blessed days of the month of Ramadaan.
