Went out to work with Blondie and the Phoenix today and got the scare of my life. At least I recognized it fast. I was giving Blondie some wet/soak beet pulp to try to her. To me after she foaled yesterday she looked a little skinny.... She took two bites and started pawing the ground and went to lay down... I was able to walk up to her and pet her...Not normal... I had a 15yr old with me and said get a lead rope and start walk FAST... Before she got a hold of her she laid down two more times. I was dialing #'s fast. Good thing is she never rolled. But I was scared she may have twisted Saturday night/Sunday morning giving birth... Got her to poop before the vet got there and she stopped sweating. So we had started out of the woods. Vet checked her, she was starting to impact... She wasn't drinking enough for her and the foal with the heat... So $180 later and 10 ppl there fast, with 1 great vet we are out of the woods fully , she's
drinking and only eating wet food.
phoenix is already acting like a firebird.... Bucking and rearing at less than 36 hrs old ....He he he
I'm glad I was there.
