This year marked the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. To mark this event, the Speedway invited all past drivers to return as guests and to participate in all scheduled events.

Mike Hiss, former DC Region Member and Marlboro track record holder, was one of over 100 veteran drivers to accept. By all accounts it was a memorable weekend.

Mike finished drivers school at Marlboro in 1965 and earned his regional license behind the wheel of a TR3. The following year he earned enough National points to attend the ARRC and finish 3rd in FP. He shifted to a Brabham FB in 67 and began his pro career by finishing 3rd in the new SCCA Grand Prix series.

The first drive at Indy came in 1972 where he finished 7th and earned Rookie of the Year honors. His last appearance at the Speedway was in 1978.

From Laurel, Maryland to his current residence in California, its been an interesting and eventful journey for Mike.

    Rick
