      > Ecological Conditions for Conservation of Saltmarsh
      > Biodiversity at Sydney
      > Olympic Park
      >
      > Intertidal saltmarsh is a rare habitat in
      > south-eastern Australia. Past
      > remediation programs at the Sydney Olympic Park,
      > Homebush Bay, addressed
      > the conservation of rare/threatened species, among
      > them, three rare
      > saltmarsh plants. The aim of this project is to
      > investigate the ecological
      > factors of importance to successful saltmarsh
      > conservation at the site, and
      > its long-term preservation in the Sydney region.
      > The project will involve
      > a combination of targeted field and laboratory
      > studies to determine
      > physical and biological factors affecting the
      > distribution of the marsh as
      > a whole, and the basic biology of two of the rare
      > species.
      >
      > The project and scholarship are funded by the Sydney
      > Olympic Park Authority
      > (SOPA). The successful candidate will enrol in a
      > PhD program at the

      > and Natural Resource
      > Management and will undertake research under the
      > supervision of Dr Alex
      > Pulkownik, Professor Derek Eamus and Professor
      > Margaret Burchett.

      > Applicants should have an Honours degree (Class I or
      > IIa) in a relevant
      > discipline area, eg, plant ecology, plant
      > ecophysiology, environmental
      > studies, biodiversity and/or conservation studies,
      > community ecology.
      > Experience in mangrove/saltmarsh ecology would be an
      > advantage. The
