  • Thank you everyone for your warm replies! Two things stick out to me as possible problems: my size is too thick or too cold. I generally use it right out of the fridge. Guess I'll let it warm up from now on! I make my carrageenan according to Galen Barry's recipe: 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp carrageenan per half gallon of water. I use distilled water to mix it. Perhaps I'll add some water to...

  • I'm so frustrated I can't even go in my craft room. That's how frustrated I am. This all started when I decided that my paints were too translucent, and I needed to make them brighter and more opaque. So I bought some acrylic flow release, mixed it to a 7:1 water:flow ratio, and preceded to make ALL NEW PAINTS. I used more of the tubed acrylic (Utrecht, recommended to me by Galen...

  • I uploaded a photo of what is going wrong. I use liquitex ink for my black, as it spreads really nice with only the addition of distilled water. But when I comb the stuff, this is what I get - big blotches of black! Should I use another product to dilute it, or should I skip it altogether? I have this ink in gold as well, and I don't encounter this problem. 90% of the paint I use...

  • Thanks for the advice. I saw a YouTube video where someone marbled an unglazed ceramic item. If I did that, how would I seal the paint on and make a glossy top coat? I don't have a kiln, so I can't bake paints into ceramic mugs. Again, I could try an unglazed mug?? How do you copyright your pieces so that no one steals them? Also, I've read a bit about t-shirts. You need to put a...

  • I'm starting to get the hang of this paper marbling, though I am nowhere near the level you nice people are! But now I have all of these 9x12 sheets of marbled paper, and nothing to do with it. Yes, I've made my own hardcover book showing my papers, but there's a problem with that: when making a book with marbled paper s, there's always the problem of seeing the backs of marbled...

  • I was thinking of marbling my metal license plate holder. Can it be done? Do I paint it first? Does it need a stronger solution of alum? Thanks! Michelle

  • Here, I got this one to print in vibrant colors using the Spanish Wave. I think I may have just messed up the surfactant qualities of my paint by combining both Galen's gall and the GAC 900. Maybe I need to start my paints over again. One thing I don't understand is that I have to add 1/8 to 1/4 tsp of GAC 900 to a one oz paint jar to get the paints to float. Same with Galen's gall...

  • The same goldens and Utrechts paints thT I used in methocel by diluting them w/water and GAC 900 aren't working in my freshly made carrageenan bath! They are sinking and not sticking to the paper! When they wouldn't sink, I added several drops to an existing 1 oz of diluted paint. If that didn't work, I added some GAC 900 to make it float. The paints do float, but they aren't...
